Prime Minister Emil Boc gave up his term and is planning to announce the decision very soon, according to journalist Ion Cristoiu. Without making any other comments, the journalist said Boc presented his resignation two weeks ago, according to Realitatea.net. "Emil Boc filed is resignation two weeks ago, as far as I know," Cristoiu said.
Speculation that Boc resigned and might be replaced with Romania's IMF representative Mihai Tanasescu emerged in the media last week.
Website inpolitics.ro, using information from Democrat-Liberal sources, said Boc wanted to resign as head of a government a while back, but President Traian Basescu asked him to wait until social tension grows more acute so that the resignation would have a full effect.
Boc's resignation might also be connected to criticism from several Democrat-Liberal leaders, including Sorin Frunzaverde, Vasile Blaga, Cristian Boureanu and Costica Canacheu, related to how the premier is leading the party.
In fact, presidential adviser Sebastian Lazaroiu recently told Gandul that if the government's program fails, Boc has to resign.
In his opinion, the government led by Boc was unskilled in communication and politics. "I can reproach it is a certain awkwardness in communication and politics," Lazaroiu said, adding that the first Boc government, consisting of a PSD-PDL alliance, was characterized by a certain "lack of firmness." Lazaroiu also ruled out the idea of early elections as having "zero possibility" of happening.
