Gov't decides: VAT goes to 24 percent |

The Government on an extraordinary session on Saturday decided an increase by 5 percent of the Value Added Tax, namely up to 24 percent, starting with the 1st of July, as an utmost anti-crisis measure.
"Today within the Government we could be able to endorse the final shape of the Letter of Intent with the International Monetary Fund, which implicates the following: the Government has decided the VAT to be raised by 5 percent, up to 24 percent," the Premier Emil Boc said.
He added that the Gov't did not endorse any other measure as regards any tax risings.
PM Boc said the Gov't will continue with the restructuring of the public sector, based on the law of 25 percent cuts of the salaries in this sector. The Premier expressed hope that in the following the Parliament would endorse the austerity laws, with the alterations determined by the decision of the Constitutional Court.
