The weather is getting worse and meteorologists raised the alert level to orange code after initially announcing a yellow code alert a day before, over snow and strong wind. The new warning came in force on Saturday 6 p.m. and will be lifted on Monday, 6 a.m. and refers to Bucharest and the counties of Gorj, Mehedinti, Dolj, Olt, Valcea, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Calarasi, Ilfov, Ialomita, Buzau, Braila and Galati.
In this time span, heavy snow is expected and the layer of snow is expected to reach 30-40 cm in some areas. In Bucharest, strong blizzards are likely, reducing visibility and causing snow drifts, according to the warning issued by the Meteorology Administration.
Meteorlogists said that the weather will gradually get worse, at first in Banat and Oltenia and then in Muntenia, Dobrogea and southern Moldavia.
"In these regions, blizzards are expected and wind of up to 75-80 km/h; heavy snow likely in some areas so the layer of snow will be rather thick. Blizzards likely in the Southern Carpathians as well, where wind will reach 100 km/h," the ANM warning shows. Bucharest Herald
