The capital's prefect asked Bucharest residents who are out of town to return early because of the heavy snow expected the next few days, which risks blocking the city's exit and entry points.
"The Bucharest Prefect's Office asks Bucharesters who are spending their weekend outside the city to return this evening (e.n. on Saturday), given that several counties - Gorj, Mehedinti, Valcea, Dolj, Olt, Teleorman - will be affected by abundant snow and an orange code alert was issued, in the interval February 6 (6 p.m.) - February 7 (6 p.m.). Also, between February 7 (6 a.m.) and February 8 (6 a.m.), snow blizzards are expected in Giurgiu, Calarasi, Ialomita, Buzau, Braila, Galati, Ilfov and Bucharest, risking to reduce visibility, produce snow drifts and block roads," according to a press release from the prefect's office.
In turn, General Mayor Sorin Oprescu called a session of the Winter Command Office on Saturday at the City Hall.
The Infotrafic center recommended that all drivers make inquiries about the weather and road conditions in the areas they plan to cross, to keep a safe distance from other vehicles in order to make sure they can stop in time, to avoid speeding and suddenly operating steering and braking mechanisms.
