The most popular drink in Romania is beer, followed by bottled water and sodas, according to a study on drink consumption in 2008, run by consultancy company A.T. Kearney and quoted by Ziarul Financiar.
The three drinks make for two thirds of the total consumption of drinks sold on the local market.
According to the survey, 73% of alcoholic drinks' consumption is made of beer, while only 48% of refreshment consumption is made of bottled water.
The phenomenon is determined by the fact Romanians still drink a lot of sodas.
"Even in this economic crisis situation, there are unused opportunities. But the commercial approach needs to be re-thought in order to capitalize these opportunities. Consumption depends on consumers and on producers, who can help increase demand," A.T. Kearney consultant Andrei Cretu said.
He added that according to the consumption average calculated in central and eastern Europe by A.T. Kearney (Romania, Italy, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and Hungary), bottled water consumption per capita can reach 95 liters the following years, compared to the current 78 liters.
