Romania’s right winger, playing for Oltchim Ramnicu Valcea, was very successful with the Chinese public, outrunning several other players, including her colleague Narcisa Lecusanu in a chart of sexiest handball players.

In an interview a few months ago, Nechita, 26, said she likes looking good, dressing up nicely and wearing make-up.

“But I don’t think I could pursue a modeling career because right now, I would give up handball for anything in the world. In the future, maybe I’ll try to get a job on TV because I’m really attracted to this world… I like extreme sports. For the time being, I avoid taking too many risks for fear of injury, but in the future, I would like to test my limits. I will certainly try some bungee jumping and parachute jumps,” Nechita said.

Beyond her perpetual smile, though, Nechita has had her share of trouble: a ligament rapture that kept her away from the game for several months, but also a widely covered divorce.

One year from their wedding, Catalin Olteanu, her husband, was arrested for setting up an organized crime group and for cybernetic fraud in the famous “Malware” file, in which 20 people were arrested, with the help of the FBI. Their two-year marriage ended shortly after the man was released.

Nechita was included in Romania’s national team for the World Championship in the last minute, after Valentina Elisei and Camelia Balint suffered injuries. Both players were left wingers.
