Mircea Geoana – the new president of Romania, exit polls say |

According to the exit polls released on Sunday evening at 9 p.m. Mircea Geoana is leading the polls and is expected to become the next president of Romania.
According to INSOMAR the social-democrat leader was voted by 51.6 per cent of Romanians, while Traian Basescu by 48.4 per cent. On the other hand CCSB reports a score of 52 per cent to 48 per cent.
The first online exit polls in the morning reported a larges score for Mircea Geoana, but during the day the ballot became neck and neck, the difference getting dimmer. As far as the turnout is concerned, by 7 p.m. no less than 53.51 per cent of Romanians have cast their votes, the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) reported. In the first round of presidential elections the registered turnout had been 49.97 per cent at the same time of the day. \ The countries registering the highest turnout were Ilfov, Mehedinti, Teleorman, while the lowest turnout was registered in Harghita and Covasna counties.
