'As far as I am concerned, this coalition can be kept as one. The election of Mircea Geoana as President will help the cause, as it makes this entire construction operational, while a second term in office of Traian Basescu will not. This is a solid coalition with a formula that has agreed on matters quite delicate concerning taxation and such. I cannot see why I should give it up, even if, purely hypothetically, Traian Basescu is re-elected. Our concern now is to plan the governance, the majority and the government programme considering Mircea Geoana as the country's President instead of Traian Basescu,' said Antonescu.

On the other hand, Antonescu claimed that Basescu 'has kept things stagnant' although Romania were in auspicious times.

'We have missed out on many things for five years and it will be hard for us now, but we have to make up for them as soon as possible,' said Antonescu.
