Social Democrat leader: We'll leave government if necessary Print E-mail
Friday, 28 August 2009

Agerpres - Social Democrat (PSD) leader Mircea Geoana said on Thursday his party is ready to leave government in case their colleagues in the ruling coalition want it.

'We'll leave government if necessary, but the Democrat Liberal colleagues should tell us they want it. We do not necessarily want to stay by their side if we bother them by our political attitude. Our colleagues in the ruling coalition are extremely restless and make waves in an election year when the battle for Romania is supreme', Geoana said during a visit to the school of Lapusele village, the northern Maramures county.

On the other hand, he insisted the PSD backs the amendments to the Education Code and wants 6 percent of the GDP to be assigned to the Romanian educational system.

'I know Romanian education is in a difficult situation and the education law suffered 140 modifications in the last 14 years. It needs to be adjusted by the new Education Code and the talks that (Education) Minister Ecaterina Andronescu is holding with the teachers and instructors consist in collecting ideas that should be contained in the new Education Code. We want the future generations of Romania to have a satisfactory education law for the next 20 years', Geoana stressed.
