The exchange rate finally showed signs of recovery on Thursday after national currency leu depreciated three days in a row against Euro. Leu depreciated in the context of foreign currency sales by foreign players and the reference rate calculated by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) dropped by 1.51 bani, to 4.3537 RON/Euro. |

The local council of Pecs (SW Hungary) signed a contract with Manufaktura-Befekteto on Tuesday on the purchase of a 49pc stake, plus two voting preference shares, in the city's famous Zsolnay Porcelain Factory, for a price of HUF 230m and a promise to inject a further HUF 500m into the company. |

Hungary's average unemployment rate was 11.4pc in the 15-74 age group in March-May, down from 11.8pc in February-April although still up from 9.8pc a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Tuesday. The moving-average rate dropped for the first time in one year. The number of employed rose for the second time in a row after drops registered since Q2 last year. |

The euro/leu exchange rate hit a historic high of 4.3257 lei never attained since the introduction of the single European currency, as the highest quotation announced so far by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) was of 4.3127 lei per euro on January 22, 2009. |
